"Speakeasy at The Wells" Was an Uproariously Good Time!
The Wells Theatre was transformed into an exciting and roaring 20’s themed Speakeasy for Virginia Stage Company’s 44th Annual Gala! Celebrating the incredible work, art, and beauty VSC brings to the Hampton Roads area year after year.
More than 150 people were in attendance to enjoy the libations, dance, laugh, and have an incredible time while exploring the theatre in an exciting new way. Hidden doors, secret hallways, and exploration of The Wells’ hidden gems brought a new kind of spirit to the Speakeasy Gala!
In addition to recognizing the amazing work and creativity of VSC the theatre company and board had the distinct pleasure of honoring Sandy Harris III; one of the founding board members and the current founding board president of Virginia Stage Company.
A very special thank you to Capital Group for sponsoring this wonderful event, and to the incredible Gala Committee. The incredible dinner was provided by Chef by Design, spotlight performances from incredible local Hampton Roads talent (such as Greg Dragas, Jordan Setzer, Ryan Clemens, Sam Flint, and more), and all hosted by our wonderful Emcee and Auctioneer, Blaine Stewart of WTKR.
Wine Down Wednesdays
Looking for a fun way to celebrate the middle of the work week? Then come on down to the Wells for our 'Wine Down Wednesdays!' Every Wednesday from 5 - 7pm the staff and doors of the Wells Theatre will welcome folks to wine, music, and great company (show or no show!) to enjoy the beautiful Wells Theatre while we celebrate the little victories of making it through the work week.
Doors open to anyone who would like to come, no ticket necessary, and the bar will be open serving wine and any other drinks you'd like to enjoy with your friends.

Virginia Stage Company is proud to partner with local artists, artisans, and crafters for its second Seasonal Mistletoe Market to be held during Norfolk’s Grand Illumination Parade! If you’re looking for a warm and wonderful place, full of holiday cheer and historical theatre history to enjoy while observing the Grand Norfolk Parade then look no further!
The bar will be open with warm drinks such as coffee and hot chocolate as well as our regular beverages and snacks for parade attendees while they wait for the Parade to pass by on Granby Street. Enjoy the opportunity to get your photo with Santa as his ‘Ho Ho Ho’s grace our historical theater lobby. Coloring sheets and take-home ornament crafts for the little ones, and one of the most beautiful marketplaces you’ll ever see! Nothing says Holidays from the Heart like homemade and well-crafted art pieces from Hampton Roads locals…and these artists will have their wares on sale for all guests!
Holiday favorite The Doorway Singers will be caroling down Tazewell and Granby, making their way to and from the Wells.
Doors will open to the public at 4pm, photos with Santa will be available until 6pm just before the parade starts and our doors will remain open throughout the parade and downtown holiday festivities. No tickets required for entry, just swing by and take photos in our historic Wells Theatre, enjoy our arts and crafts, partake in the Mistletoe Market and who knows; maybe if you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of one of our most Infamous Holiday Spirits…The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come!
